Liza is multi-talented…teaching, lecturing, and exhibiting her chased works nationally. As a highly skilled and accomplished chaser, she specializes in the creation of custom silver pieces that are rich with highly ornamental chasing and repousse designs. In fact, images of her acclaimed work are included in the book, “Chasing and Repousse’ Methods Ancient and Modern,” by Nancy Megan Corwin.
She also is the distinguished creator of Nechamkin Chasing Tools™. Fashioned after antique tools dating back to the 1880s, Liza narrowed down a massive assortment of tools to basic sets of most frequently used tools. Her own branded Nechamkin Chasing Tools are based on these classic designs, that not only feel good in your hand, but also perform with ease precision.

Liza Nechamkin began her career as a creative craftsman in high school, starting with making jewelry, drawing, painting, ceramics, weaving and painting fabric. While at the Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Crafts, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, she discovered her true passion for metal smithing, exploring all techniques and objects from rings and pendants to hollowware and flatware.
“As far back as I can tell, I always had a passion for making things,” Liza detailed. “While in school, one course focused on metal work…exploring rings, hollowware, flatware, and more… and I knew instantly, ‘This is what I wanted to do.’ I also loved toolmaking, making my own while school and knew I always wanted my own business.”
Immediately upon graduating, Liza went to work for Tiffany and Co.® for 13 years as one of the top three most highly skilled Silversmith/Chasers in the hollowware and trophy shop. Here, she mastered the fine art of metal restoration, inspiring other designers to talking about chasing, making an impact on design techniques during her time with them. During this time, she also developed her silver restoration business and started instructional chasing and jewelry workshops.
“I really enjoy the engineering part of silver repair. How it is put together. How I can pull it apart and repair it. It’s a rare and unique skill that I possess.”
Liza resigned her position with Tiffany and Co. ® in 2008 to manage Nechamkin Silver Studios full time and pursue the development and marketing of her branded Nechamkin Chasing Tools.
Today, Liza’s work reflects her deep love for what she does. She upholds the silversmith tradition, utilizing her extensive knowledge to fix silver jewelry, memorabilia, silver plating, fine silver hollowware and much more by hand. With 30+ years of experience, she is distinguished as a foremost expert in the silversmithing community, a master in an industry where traditional silversmiths are disappearing and only a few of her kind remain.
