Under customary use on non ferrous metal, the working face of your Nechamkin Chasing Tools will not deform or crack. If one does, we will repair or replace it free. These are not castings. They are handmade from solid steel bar, by highly skilled toolmakers. We take pride in the fact that you will not find higher quality chasing tools on the market.

Nechamkin Chasing Tools are made from cold rolled W-1 grade tool steel; then hardened to their maximum and tempered to prevent cracking. It is normal for the hitting end of a chasing tool to mushroom slightly over time. That end should not be hardened. The antiques these were patterned after never were. The striking end is expected to be unhardened to resist cracking from the hardened hammer. They are meant to be used with an appropriately hardened hammer face. (For safety, never hit hardened steel with hardened steel as it may shatter or crack.)
